The 1915 Clymer Reunion

The first two week in August have always  been  reserved for Reunions, the Clymer Reunion, the Weir Reunion, and the Null Reunion. I grew up on Long Island, about 25 miles from Manhattan, but the first two weeks in August we were in Bucks County or Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to attend family reunions.

I live in Alaska  now, but in August I  gladly exchange cool weather, glaciers, and snow capped peaks for the heat and humidity  of eastern Pennsylvania so our family can attend the reunions.  Hopefully, my children and grandchildren will have a similar fondness for reunions when August rolls around!

In 1886 a CLYMER married a SWARTLEY.
In 1912 a SWARTLEY married a WEIR.
In 1946 a WEIR married a NULL.
In 1975 a NULL married a BASINGER.

What do these families have in common?

The Clymers, Weirs, Nulls, and Basingers
all lived in Pennsylvania in the 18th Century. The Clymers, Nulls, and Basingers were German-speaking;  the Weirs were Scotch-Irish and English-speaking.
My line of Clymers, Weirs, and Nulls remained in Lancaster and Bucks Counties until the 1950's.

The Basingers, my husband's family, arrived in America in the 1780's and quickly joined others on the Great Wagon Road south and WEST into Virginia and Tennessee.

I have collected over 120,000 names
and attempt to show how each person connects  with the  Ancestor who immigrated to America. Many of the names are not related directly to me or to my ancestors...but usually connect to the family in some way on this side of the Atlantic.

In most cases I do not use primary sources (birth certificates, court records, family Bibles, etc.) but secondary sources (books, newspapers, internet sites). Yes, there are errors in my work and I am eager to make corrections.

There are three ways to contribute:
  1. E-mail me and mention the Family Name to which you refer (i.e. Clymer, Weir, Null, Basinger).
  2. Leave a Post-em on the name of the individual at my RootsWeb WorldConnect site. RootsWeb explains the procedure.
  3. Send  mail to:

Minutes of the 1915 Clymer Family Reunion Business Meeting

Ninety members present at the noon hour. Varied programs rendered and historical sketch read. One marriage, three births and one death during year.

The fifth reunion of the Clymer family was held at the home of Howard Lapp and

sister at Grier's Corner (Bucks County, Pennsylvania) on Saturday, August 28th.

The family members began to arrive in the early morning by trolley, carriages, and automobile when about ninety members were seated at the dinner tables.

In the afternoon a short program was given. Harry B. Clymer, of Jenkintown, presided and Minerva Clymer of Tradesville acted as secretary protem.

The president made a brief address saying, "God will take care of us. From the beginning God took care of his owns and will in the future. He took care of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and others. Mr. Clymer told the story of Joab and said he thought it well for young people to study the Bible more during the following year and learn the promises God has given us if we will but live well and nobly.

Mr. Clymer then followed his talk with a prayer. The program was as follows

Mrs. Suzie Lapp Texter gave the following brief historical sketch "The home of our great grandfather (Henry Johnson Clymer), birthplace of our grandfather (Henry Kulp Clymer), and where my husband and I started housekeeping twenty years ago passed out of the Clymer family in the spring of 1915, after being in the family almost 100 years. Our great grandfather purchased it of John Harris in 1816."

The births during the year were Doris Weir, daughter of Wilmer and Ethel Weir, January 11, 1915. Verna Clymer, daughter of Elmer and Laura Clymer, July 14, 1915.

One death occurred, that of Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Lapp at whose home this reunion was held.

One marriage occurred, that of I. Lillis Clymer to Furman Edwards, June 2nd, 1915.

(The group was photographed.)

Respectfully submitted,

Minerva Clymer
